How To Obtain A German Working Visa CareerMetis.com
How To Obtain A German Working Visa Germany has one of the most robust economies in the world. In fact, it ranks as the fourth largest by nominal GDP. It only lags behind the US, China, and Japan. To foreigners, this aspect of the developed nation, officially the Federal Republic of Germany, comes as a strong motivator for moving. Understandably, people outside the country would like to have their chance to work and earn a decent income, and lead a better life here.evalThere are great employment opportunities in Germany, where the highest paid professions are in the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, Law, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science.Depending on your professional background, it is also noteworthy that Germany is home to many great artists, athletes, and inventors. So it should not be difficult to find yourself a niche you are familiar with while living in this highly industrialized nation with a great work-life balance. So the question here is focused on how to obtain a German working visa. The answers c an be straightforward, however, it may also vary according to oneâs country of origin and profession.Work Permit for EU NationalsevalHistorically, Germany is one of the founders of the EU in 1993. One of the benefits of being a EU citizen is that you would not need to secure a visa to enter Germany.Additionally, if you already have a German residence permit, due to the integrated economy, this simultaneously allows you to apply for work and become officially employed Citizens in this aforementioned category who are interested to apply for work in Germany only need to apply personally at a German Embassy or Consulate and present the following requirements:Valid passport with at least one or two additional copiesTwo or more passport photographsFurnish a copy of contract of employmentValid IDs like driverâs license and proof of billingPayment of the visa feeIt is best to keep a copy of all requirements submitted, plus bring along pertinent documents like a letter of intent from the employer, and your educational records.Having formally applied for a residence visa for work, the German diplomatic office shall contact the immigration department and communicate your intention to seek for a job. The Federal Employment Agency shall process and, once approved, inform the diplomatic office where you applied, of the status of your visa. The average span of time for processing a working visa is around eight to twelve weeks. However, for citizens of the EU and aforementioned states, the process can be considerably shorter. Also, in the absence of criminal records or other legal obstructions, the approval of the working visa application shall be swiftly handled.evalFor non-EU citizens who want to obtain a German work visa, the whole process can be more difficult, and will require some time and patience. It is quite possible that many interested applicants under this classification might be disapproved on various grounds that will be further discussed. However, once initia lly granted permit, candidates are given a three-month period to enter Germany and complete the filing of work permits there.Reason for Tougher Qualifications for Non-EU Nationals and ForeignersWhile Germany has a positive immigration program that is designed to help the country cope with its aging population, its immigration laws and regulations remain strict. There may be an increasing need to fill up specialized positions in various industries throughout the nation, such as in engineering, but employers are required to explain why they want to hire someone living outside Germany instead of a preferential candidate. So companies cannot just hire anyone quickly as they wish.Germany is also highly populated with eighty three million inhabitants, which means that for a non-citizen to land a job there can be very challenging. The preference in job hiring is in this order:German citizensEU nationalsForeignersTherefore, even if a foreigner is well educated and skilled for the field he/s he is applying for, it is imperative that this order of job hiring is followed if qualified German or EU candidates are available. Since Germany offers a tuition-free university education with a high quality of educational standard, possessing a basic bachelorâs degree might not be enough to clinch a skilled employment. You would need a masterâs degree to compete, and even that wouldnât guarantee you to stand out. Plus, it is very important to learn to speak the language clearly. Regardless of oneâs qualifications or education, German employers would not want to struggle to simply convey simple instructions in the workplace and have to hurdle past the communication barrier.Requirements for Non-EU Citizens to Obtain a German Working VisaevalRequirements for a German working permit depends on the job classification you are applying for, namely: general employment, specialized professional, or as an entrepreneur.First, you will need to submit filled out forms personally at the German diplomatic office and pay for the application fee of ⬠60.For general employment application purposes, the following documents are needed:Submission of two passport size photographsA valid passport Still, despite the immediate qualifications, it is imperative that you must be able to sustain yourself financially, and must prove it with pertinent financial documentation. Under this criterion, in addition to the filled out work visa form, skilled employees must submit:Contract of employment from German employer (with job details and employment description)Passport size photographs (two copies)Passport (with photocopy)Documents supporting your professional experience and specialized skillsHow to Apply for Work Permit as an Entrepreneur in GermanyFor foreigners to work as an entrepreneur in Germany it is not enough to just present a viable business model. First and foremost, it must be a business type in which the German government is in need of, and will unqualifiedly benefit from especially from an economic point of view. That it must have an impact to society must be proven upon application, such as being able to offer new job opportunities to local inhabitants, or contribute considerably to government income. If you can prove that your business is sustainable and beneficial, additional documents must be submitted to prove that you have sufficient investment capital to cover for your proposed business model to kick-start your visa application for self-employment in Germany.Personally submitting a filled up form for a German work visa, the following needs to be furnished:Two passport size photographsPassport (with 2 photocopies)Documents containing your business model, including your work experience, and investment projections, pertinent proofs to show that it is beneficial and, therefore, meets the basic requirements.Bank deposit or any proof of financial capability necessary for the businessIf you are still doubtful about your qualifications, you may f urther consult Bradford Jacobsand come out with more confident solutions and knowledge of the proper documents to submit for a faster working visa approval.

How to Prepare for an Interview
How to Prepare for an Interview The interview is scheduled! You are ecstatic, as well you should be! But now what? How will you prepare for an interview? Now that the interview is scheduled, you can really begin preparing and practicing! Youve already done some preliminary research on the company, but now its time to dig deep. The more you know about the company, its competitors and the overall market, the smarter youll appear. Too often people fail to do thorough research and find themselves in a role or company that isnt what they expected. 10 most important steps to prepare for an interview 1. Get a copy of the most current and/or in-depth job description Heres why you need to ask someone in the company for the job description. What theyve posted online may not be the full description or even the most recent version of the job requirements. It isnt unusual for a company to have a different version of the job description for use internally. It may be more descriptive. Theres nothing wrong with asking the person scheduling the interview if they can send you the full job description. You may even reach out to someone you know inside the company and ask what they can find on the internal job posting site. 2. Prepare a STAR story for each of the job requirements. Go through each requirement listed in the job posting and develop an answer for how you meet that specific requirement. A STAR story is a concise and thorough way of mapping out what you did and what the outcome was. Read more here. If you dont have the exact skills the company is asking for, chances are you have done something similar. Develop that story! 3. Prepare answers to the most common interview questions and practice out loud Here is a list of the most popular questions to these questions. It is so important to practice each answer out loud. It sounds different when you speak your answer. Consider video recording yourself to evaluate your answer. Keep refining it until you own it. It shouldnt sound rehearsed. It should sound natural! This takes practice! 4. Craft your opening statement or the answer to tell me about yourself You can pretty much count on this question being asked, so prepare the best 1-minute response. The trick is to answer the question as if you were being asked, why should we hire you. Remember, you only have one minute to summarize the MOST IMPORTANT qualifications. Heres a template: Tell me about yourself 5. Research the company Use the company website to see what the say about themselves. You may even notice on their career page they have interviews with employees and information on what it is like to work there. But dont stop here. Google the company and see what news is being mentioned. Sleuth the company (and interviewers) on LinkedIn. Check out anonymous employee reviews on Glassdoor . If you cant find the company listed anywhere, then visit your local library and speak to a reference librarian! Before the interview, you should reach out to your network and ask what people know about the company. Do this BEFORE you accept an offer. The information you obtain will help you assess the company. Be prepared to answer all of these questions: What do you know about us? What do we do? Who are our competitors? Why do you want to work here? 6. Know something about the people who will be interviewing you! Thank goodness for LinkedIn. Go ahead and see where your interviewers used to work, what organizations and groups they belong to and even check out the recommendations others have written about them. You may want to search for them on Facebook and Google too. 7. Prepare smart questions you will ask! In order to thoroughly understand the job and company, youll want to ask questions! There is a lot you want to know besides just the pay and benefits. Ask questions to learn what will be expected of you, how the team functions and more. Do not wait until the end of the interview to ask your questions. The best interview will be a conversation so plan to ask your questions throughout the interview. Get more ideas here 8. Know what the format of the interview will be If you havent been told what the format of the interview will be, it is your right to ask. You want to be prepared and knowing the format will help you feel more comfortable. Will you be meeting one-on-one, as a panel, via phone, Skype or online video, and how long is the scheduled to last. 9. Bring copies of your resume for each person you will be interviewing with, just in case Dont assume everyone will have a copy of your resume. The copy they have may be an ugly text version, so bring the nicely formatted resume. Printing it on nice quality paper isnt required, however, it does seem more professional. And if you really want to WOW the interviewers, consider bringing an infographic resume to supplement your traditional text resume. 10. Know exact dates If you havent completed an application yet, be sure you have the exact dates and information to complete the application. No, you cant say see attached resume. You need to fully and accurately complete the job application. It is a legal document, so do not lie, exaggerate or embellish. Want to download this checklist? Food for Thought for the week Lean on me - Hallie Crawford
Food for Thought for the week Lean on me Ive been quiet on my blog this past week. I had to make some changes to my support team and I stink at working with HTML so needed someone who could help me with my postings. I am not techno babe when it comes to HTML. Fortunately now, Im back in biz! This past week without having the business support I need, has reminded me of 2 things: 1) During any kind of change, including career transition, you absolutely have to have support. When I was completely changing career paths, from marketing to coaching, I needed my husbands support but forgot to specifically ask for it. I was working in a part time job, coaching on the side, and wasnt doing anything around the house including cooking or shopping for food. Wed decided early on in our marriage that I would cook. He hates to cook and his idea of a meal at that time was macaroni and cheese and a hotdog. You know me, Im a health nut so that doesnt fly. I didnt have time to cook so we started arguing about this. I realized after a few meal discussions that I needed to explain to him that I was in career transition and needed support. We talked, figured out a plan, done. 2) My coaches over time have reminded me of the importance of having support when youre an entrepreneur. Having a solid support team of people makes the difference between treating your business as a hobby vs. a true business. Since Ive had help, my coaching practice has grown by leaps and bounds. AND I felt like I was taking a risk when I initially made the leap in hiring my first VA. This week think about this: Where do you need to ask for support? Where do you hesitate to do so? Its time to overcome that and reach out! Lean on someone. Have a good one. Hallie, Career Coaching Related Posts:Career Support Times ThreePick Your BattlesCreate a Support Team

Instacart Just Cut Workers Pay Rate by 63%
Instacart Just Cut Workers Pay Rate by 63% Instacart, a $2 billion grocery delivery startup, plans to dramatically cut the fees it pays freelance couriers who deliver groceries in several cities. Despite an extended partnership with Whole Foods, the delivery startup seems to be following the lead of several other gig economy startups in trying to rein in costs amid a tighter funding environment, reports The Wall Street Journal. Instacart drivers working in several major markets including San Francisco and Los Angeles will now earn $1.50 per drop-off of pre-packed bags from grocery stores, down from the previous guarantee of $4, in what amounts to a 63% rate cut. The company also slashed by half the commission it pays for each item in an order a driver actually shops for and collects in stores to just 25 cents. The new rates mean that workers, in some cases, would need to triple their deliveries to make the same pay as before. The company claims shoppers will still earn between $15 and $20 per hour, but thatâs based on expectations that drivers will receive tips. Increased competition from companies like Amazon and Google, along with less enthusiastic investor support, have caused similar on-demand startups that rely on contractors to deliver good, run errands, or give rides to get stingy with their compensation too. Instacart is just the latest company in the gig economy to cut contract workers pay rates. Food-delivery startup DoorDash recently lowered the fees it pays delivery people from $6 to $5. Shuddle, a ride service for families, will raise prices by 20%. Even Uber is feeling the pressure: it cut prices in more than 100 U.S. and Canadian cities in order to drum up business. Those cuts carried over to driver pay, with some now earning less than a half-dollar per mile. In Tampa, Fla., for example, drivers now make 49 to 52 cents per mile.
